MBDAC successfully secured $499k in grant funding for this vital initiative.

The Client

Marnin Bowa Dumbara Aboriginal Corporation (MBDAC) is a respected Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation specialising in family and domestic violence services in Derby, WA.

Operating the Derby Family Healing Centre, they provide crisis refuge accommodation and vital support services for women and children affected by family and domestic violence. With 28 years of service delivery experience, MBDAC has built extensive relationships across the West Kimberley region, offering crucial trauma-informed care and community support services.

The Challenge

The Kimberley region has faced increasing rates of family violence, with Aboriginal children being disproportionately impacted. MBDAC identified a critical need for culturally appropriate child safety resources and training for community organisations. However, developing and implementing such a comprehensive program required significant funding and expertise in grant application development.

The Solution

Enablen worked closely with MBDAC to develop a compelling grant application for the Aboriginal Family Safety Grants Program. Our team:

  • Conducted thorough analysis of the grant guidelines and assessment criteria;
  • Collaborated with MBDAC to understand their vision and community needs;
  • Developed a comprehensive project framework aligned with the Aboriginal Family Safety Strategy;
  • Created detailed implementation plans and budgets;
  • Structured the application to clearly demonstrate the project's alignment with program objectives.

The resulting application outlined a transformative initiative: the Kimberley Community Child Safety and Advocacy Program. This program was designed to develop culturally tailored child-safe policies and protective behaviour training workshops, supporting local organisations in protecting children affected by family violence.

The Outcome

MBDAC successfully secured $499k in grant funding for this vital initiative. The funded project will:

  • Develop co-designed child safety resources with Aboriginal cultural leaders and elders
  • Deliver face-to-face training to community-based organisations across the Kimberley
  • Create an accessible project website for broader resource sharing
  • Support Aboriginal-led approaches to family safety
  • Strengthen organisational capacity in the family violence sector

The project will create lasting positive change by empowering local organisations with the knowledge and tools they need to enhance child safety in their communities.
