TAIHS Secure $477k in Funding for Facility Upgrades.
Townsville Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation for Health Services (TAIHS) is a leading provider of culturally appropriate healthcare services in North Queensland. As an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service, TAIHS delivers essential primary healthcare and support services to the Indigenous community in the Townsville region.
TAIHS's main clinic in Garbutt was facing significant infrastructure challenges that were impacting service delivery and safety. The facility's wave-form roof design was collecting water during severe weather events, leading to water damage and subsequent ceiling deterioration. This created ongoing workplace health and safety concerns, with unstable ceiling tiles and visible mould growth presenting risks to both staff and patients. These issues needed to be addressed to ensure the continued provision of safe and accessible healthcare services.
Enablen worked closely with TAIHS to develop a comprehensive funding submission for the Indigenous Australians' Health Programme Service Maintenance Program. We clearly articulate the critical nature of the required upgrades while ensuring alignment with the program's objectives.
We helped TAIHS develop a targeted solution that included structural modifications to the roof and a complete ceiling tile replacement throughout the main building. The submission demonstrated how these upgrades would directly improve safety and accessibility for Indigenous community members accessing primary healthcare services.
The grant application was successful, securing $477k in funding for TAIHS. This investment enabled critical infrastructure upgrades including:
- Formation of new expansion joints to curved roof sections to prevent water pooling
- Installation of new roof sheeting and insulation
- Complete replacement of ceiling tiles throughout approximately 60 rooms and areas
- Implementation of proper ceiling level adjustments
These improvements will create a safer environment for staff and patients while ensuring the facility can continue providing essential healthcare services to our First Nations communities in Townsville.
